Raising the debt ceiling is dominating the fiscal conversation once again. This must ultimately be solved once and for all. Discussing this over and over means we're not solving the problem, but rather kicking the can down the road. The answer can be simply stated: cut federal spending dramatically and reasonably reform entitlement programs. As of now, the debt ceiling stands at a stunning $16.4T (as in trillion!!!).
The more often a word ("trillion") is spoken, the less of an impact it has.
WE MUST NEVER FORGET THE IMMENSITY OF A TRILLION DOLLARS.
If $1,000 bills were stacked,
one thin one next to another thin one,
it would take 67.9 miles to reach one trillion dollars.
$1,000,000,000,000.00
and our debt is more almost SIXTEEN trillion dollars.
That stack would be more than
1,086.4 miles long.

According to The Heritage Foundation, the costly repetition in the federal budget features:
342 separate economic development programs,
130 programs serving the disabled, and
130 programs targeting at-risk youth.
Further, the number of pork projects in the federal budget skyrocketed from under 1,600 in 1997 to more than 9,000 in 2010. Conservatives in Congress were able to place a moratorium on wasteful earmarks in 2011. Pork projects need to be voted on individually, not hidden in the language of legitimate bills.
The waste and duplication of effort cost billions of dollars. At this time of budget crisis, any and every cut should be made. The reason these amounts are considered small and inconsequential, is that a debt of more than $16 trillion dollars dwarfs mere billions.

Fort Hood Massacre
Terrorist attack on our army base near Killeen, Texas.
Nidal Malik Hasan killed 13 people in cold blood
and injured 32 others.
The secondary tragedy here is that the administration calls this "workplace violence",
rather than what it was,
a terrorist attack.
Without a designation as a terrorist incident, those affected are unable to access military benefits.
